With summer here and in full swing it’s about time I post the recipe for this stuff- the goo. It’s awesome. I\’ve always hated the sticky feeling that straight aloe vera leaves and this mix doesn’t do that. It goes on smooth, absorbs into your skin and offers pain relief like nothing I\’ve every tried before for sunburn. I\’m amazed at what a difference adding coconut oil does to cutting the stickyness. Lavender and Marjoram offer lots of pain relief and Peppermint is oh, so cooling. You will love it.
It’s pretty easy. I mixed equal parts coconut oil and aloe vera gel in an 8 oz jar. You can go as organic and natural as you want with the aloe vera. Mine is the standard stuff
you find with lidocaine added (why not fix my sunburn medically AND naturally?) I then added the witch hazel
, lavender essential oil, marjoram essential oil and peppermint essential oil. Lavender is soothing, marjoram is pain-killing and peppermint is cooling (be sure to use essential oils that are meant to be on your skin, not the kind you scent your home with). You could probably add frankincense or helicrysm oil for healing too if you wanted (you can check out my oil dealer here). Mix them all up and voila!
RECIPE:
1/2 C COCONUT OIL
1/2 C ALOE VERA GEL
2 TBSP WITCH HAZEL
20 DROPS LAVENDER OIL
20 DROPS MARJORAM OIL
5 DROPS PEPPERMINT OIL
You now have 2 options. You can leave it out on the counter, making the coconut oil more liquid and the entire mix more creamy OR you can stick it in the fridge. We keep ours in the fridge. That way you get aloe vera gel that is deliciously cold and the coconut oil turns into creamy little beadlets and as you put it on they melt. It is very refreshing and really the kindest way to treat a new sunburn.
Mix some up and let me know how it goes for you! It’s pretty much the best stuff ever.
Off to the pool!
Sounds like an excellent recipe. I am going to mix up a few batches for our trip to Florida next week (From Ohio). I have one question though. In using the coconut oil….what kind do you use? Fractionated? solid organic? Thanks
I do solid organic. I’m pretty sure you could do any kind and have good results!
