I\’ve been missing my \’be silly\’ days and I\’ve really wanted to add a Beauty element to this blog because I LOVE playing make-up. I\’ve been using Maskcara make-up for a few years now and it’s pretty much the best thing ever if you’re busy and you like easy day-to-day make-up with the highlight and contour look. As I\’ve used it I\’ve found a few things that make ANY make-up routine go smoother, last longer and ultimately *hopefully* promote healthier skin overall.
1. Clean your Brushes
This is a resolution for this year. It makes a huge difference how often you wash your brushes and I just love how much faster and easier my make-up routine is if I buckle down and do this! I don’t bother with getting a brush cleaner, instead I just follow this easy tutorial every few weeks at night and leave my brushes out to dry for the night so they’re ready for me in the morning.
2. Moisturize
This is also a resolution for me this year! I\’m trying really hard to tighten up my routines and take better care of myself and moisturizing my skin seems to be becoming a higher priority as my skin is starting to age. I just want to make sure I\’m doing everything I need to now so that I age well. Moisturizing also makes a HUGE difference when it comes to putting on make-up! Dry flaky skin does not allow everything to blend well. This MILK moisturizer by Maskcara is amazing and perfect for using at night, and I also love this serum from 100 Percent Pure.

3. Find a good Primer
I got a sample of the Too Faced Hangover Rx in my Ipsy bag and fell in love. I don’t know if it’s the coconut water or the probiotics (two things I\’ve never noticed in a facial moisturizer) but this stuff makes my skin so soft and so ready for make-up! It’s the perfect way to prep your skin before make-up application.
4. Use a light hand
One of the reasons I love this make-up is because it’s single layer. Instead of putting on a foundation and then using more foundation colors to highlight and contour, this really is everything in one. Using a light hand to apply it is all you need. I\’m not a big fan of heavy make-up, so this works out perfectly for me!
I think people are initially intimidated by multiple colors like this, but once I got used to it, I could never go back!!
5. Blend, Blend, Blend
This is the key. A tell of women new to contouring is when they don’t blend and they have stripes on their face (on occasion Mr Davis will tell me I didn’t blend well enough and I\’ve been at this for awhile, sooooooo…). I switched from using just brushes to a beauty blender and that’s made a big difference. I run that all over my face before I\’m done just to be sure nothing is undone.
6. Set your Make-up
Always set your make-up. I like using a setting powder over using a setting spray-but that’s my personal preference. I very lightly dust this into my t-zone, being sure not to overload it anywhere so it doesn’t settle into wrinkles. Using something to set your make-up means having it last that much longer throughout the day (and in the desert heat!)
7. Remove your make-up at night!
Can you see my reflection in the spoon? lol. I am SO BAD at remembering to remove my make-up, but it makes a noticeable difference in the health of my face skin. My go-to for removing make-up is coconut oil because it works well for everything, especially eye make-up. I\’ve found it not only helps my skin be healthier, but my eyelashes too. I use old t-shirts on my face and hair because they’re so gentle and they work great for gently scrubbing the make-up off of my eyes and skin.
If you can’t tell already, I\’ve totally signed up to be a Maskcara Artist because I love her make-up and can’t imagine using anything else! If you\’d like to be color matched, contact me with a picture and I\’ll help you find your dream shades! And if you’re local-let’s get together and play make-up!
